My name is Varinder Singh. I am studying French because I got fed up with Spanish and wanted to learn something new. French is similar to Spanish in some ways so it shouldn’t be completely starting from zero. Other than fluent english, I also speak Punjabi, which is my native language. My goals at the end of this course is to learn basic French and understand basic sentences such as “How are you”. I look forward to taking this class and learning French.
Hi my name is Dylan Stewart. I’m a film major and wanted to learn french because i was interested in learning a foreign language to eventually watch and have a better understanding of the french language. I also want to travel to Paris in the future and i’d be good to know some Français. I only speak english and some patois, from years i spent in Jamaica when i was younger. My goal at the end of the semester is to know enough french that i could have a conversation in french and understand the grammar and pronunciation.
Hi, my name is Nehyandé Winslow. I’m a psych major and interested in learning French so I can hopefully study abroad one day. I only speak English and my goal for the end of the semester is to memorize as much as I can while being in this class.
Hi, my name is Kirpal Singh; I major in biology at CUNY Hunter College. I chose to study the language of French because I wanted to learn something new after taking Spanish for almost five years in high school and middle school. The main reason I’m taking this course is as a requirement; however, I see many other benefits that tag along with the course including career opportunities, intellectual function, and for travel purposes. Learning a new language can stimulate cognitive function and act as a mental workout to enhance problem-solving skills and creativity. As for career opportunities learning another language comes as an advantage when applying for jobs; regarding travel, learning another language like French would be beneficial. I fluently speak Punjabi and know the language linguistically. My goal at the end of this semester is to learn basic phrases and hold basic conversations in French with my peers.
Hi, my name is Gabriella Bernard. I am undecided currently. I decided to take French because I’ve always wanted to travel to France and other French-speaking countries. My mother also knows French so being able to talk and practice the language with her is great. I am Hispanic so I do know Spanish as well. My goal at the end of this course would be to be able to understand as well as speak basic conversation in French.
Hi, my name is Juan Tapia, I’m planning on majoring in Chemistry and I’m interested in French because I want to take full advantage of my head start as a Spanish speaker to be able to communicate with more and more groups of people, and I hope to continue to learn more languages after being proficient in French, especially Chinese.
Hello all, my name is Fahmid Alam. I’m studying French because I already took Spanish in high school and French looks easier to pick up on than languages that don’t use English characters. I also speak Bengali and Spanish, and am in the process of trying to learn Korean. By the end of this specific course, I want to be able to make basic small talk in French.
By the time I’m done with language as a whole at Hunter (end of French III), I want to be able to travel to a French-speaking country and conduct business smoothly without coming off as a tourist.

Hello, my name is Evelyn. I decided to study French because it has always interested me. I also speak Spanish and notice that some French words also mean the same thing in Spanish. By the end of this course, my main objective is to at least be able to understand French, even if I still have trouble speaking the language.

Hello, my name is Braylin Nunez Rosario and I’m a Chemistry Major. I want to study French because I would like to able to speak the language fluently in order to visit French speaking countries and understand what the locals tell me. I already speak fluent Spanish and English and am semi-proficient in ASL(American Sign Language). By the end of this course I hope to be able to understand elementary sentences and communication phrases as well as be able to say those sentences and phrases.

My first language is English, and I decided to study French because I liked the language. Hello! My name is Lindsay. I am a computer science major and I am taking French because I have always been interested in it and it is very close to Haitian Creole, which is my family’s first language, but they know French as well. The only language I speak fluently is English, and I understand a lot of Haitian Creole, but I cannot speak it. My objective for this class is to be able to understand the basics of French and get the right pronunciation somewhat by the end of this class.

I think it would be fun to be able to hold a nice conversation with them. Also I am fluent in Spanish which is somewhat similar to French. Hello, my name is Ashley Dixon, currently studying French because I find the subject and the dialect interesting. I would also like to be able to learn and understand the culture as well as being able to communicate well in the language. I’ve always been interested in becoming fluent in a 2nd language and aside from Spanish, I think French would be a good advantage in the medical field. Being from Jamaica, I speak both English and Patois. Patois is an informal language only used in casual conversations rather than professional settings.

Hello everyone. My name is Cassandra and I am studying French to satisfy my core classes at Hunter College. I am a double major student in psychology and human biology, and hope to go into the medical field after my studies at Hunter. I have been to Paris twice- I absolutely love the city, and hope to travel through Europe more efficiently knowing some of the French language. I have also been to the French speaking region of Switzerland, and its one of the most beautiful places in the world (to me!) Fun fact- I have a tattoo on my arm of a skull that was copied from a photo of a skull in the catacombs of Paris!!

I’m studying French because I’m Canadian, and I think that if I ever work in Canada, it would be helpful to have some basic comprehension of French. My native language is English, but I have been actively studying Spanish for several years now, and passively learning German for a little bit. My goal for the end of this course is to be able to recognise what is being said in a given French conversation, and hopefully even contribute to it! 🙂

L’espagnol était ma langue maternelle, alors j’ai décidé d’étudier le français, ce qui n’est pas très différent.
